    • As the Release 15 of the fifth generation of mobile system (5G) frozen in June 2018 by 3rd generation partner project (3GPP), the industrialization of 5G system is being accelerated for commercial launch towards 2020. As the next step of the production of 5G system, it is needed to validate if the 5G specifications can meet the minimum performance requirements defined by 3GPP. Based on the latest 5G specifications, a prototype of 5G new radio (NR) base station was designed and developed, and the field trial of enhanced mobile broad band (eMBB) was conducted in the typical urban scenarios. The key performance indicators were validated against the minimum requirements of peak throughput, cell throughput, coverage and latency. The results proved that the 5G prototype can fulfil the minimum requirements of 5G system defined by 3GPP.

    • The fifth generation of mobile communications system (5G) will be deployed in 2020 and provide diverse communication capabilities, but the promising future of beyond 5G is surely necessary for the communication requirements incurred by fast growing information technology in the next decade. Among several roadmaps toward beyond 5G, wireless big data (WBD) plus artificial intelligence (AI) based communication technology, which covers physical layer, network layer and application layer, is considered as one of the most promising ways. Along with this thought, some emerging research works have been published, which further stimulate more researcher to pay more attention in this area. This paper introduces three interesting works toward this aim, which covers channel modelling, huge access, and network topology design. The channel modelling part starts with the feasible ways to apply machine learning to wireless channel modelling, and presents the prevailing methods in parameter estimation, channel multipath clustering, which is of great importance for future research. The huge access part focuses on fractal phenomenon and its possible applications in wireless networks. After introducing the basic concept, this part investigates the maximum capacity fractal D2D social networks. The network topology design part proposes an interesting topic, whose motivation is to utilize the dynamic mobility features of mobile users to decrease the wireless resource consumption in ultra dense networks (UDN). In summary, these three works are considered as promising topics in beyond 5G, which combines wireless big data analysis and may shed light on related future research.

    • A novel architecture of cooperated deployment for multi-access edge computing (MEC) was proposed to integrate the radio access networks and core networks. It makes full use of container technology and micro-service to implement the agile deployment scheme. MEC traffic flow is recognized and forwarded efficiently with a modified the protocol stack of data plane in base stations. Moreover, the intelligent domain name system was introduced to handle cooperated task allocation of MEC among multiple network elements. According to the results of practical experiments, the proposed architecture may allocate appropriate MEC processing nodes to specific tasks in line with their characteristics to reduce the delay and enhance the scalability. It provides better performance for low-latency scenarios in the fifth generation of mobile communications system(5G) compared with standalone deployment and traditional task allocation approaches.

    • Abstract ( 522 )     HTML
    • The delay guarantee of ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC) traffic under resource reservation policy was analyzed when both URLLC traffic and enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) traffic co-exist in the fifth generation of mobile communications system (5G) system. The impact on eMBB traffic's quality of service was also analyzed. Based on the stochastic network calculus theory, the needed resource reservation ratio for URLLC traffic with probabilistic delay constraint requirement was investigated. Specifically, a minimum threshold, meeting this delay requirement for URLLC traffic, was derived. In addition, the delay performance of eMBB traffic was also analyzed. The results showed that, when the system resource was fixed, the delay distribution of eMBB traffic would be influenced by the amount of resource reserved for URLLC traffic, and the deteriorate level greatly depended on the reservation ratio.

    • To enhance the system topology vulnerability caused by the failure of critical nodes in the Internet of Things (IoT) system based complex application environments, a construction method of the survivable k-connected topology is proposed. Firstly, all nodes of network system are classified into non-overlapping clusters. Then, the cut points existed in the network are detected, and the cut point centered a local k-connected topology is constructed by use of the motion of the cluster head nodes, so that the critical nodes can be effectively removed to improve the network survivability. Finally, all the cluster head nodes are selected to form the backbone network which also acts as the global inter-cluster k-connected topology. The proposed method is evaluated by the simulation in an IoT-based intelligent monitoring system. The results proves the feasibility and validity of the proposed method in terms of the betweeness centrality of nodes, the network average connectivity and the network robustness.

    • A random access (RA) scheme based on sub-preambles is proposed to reduce average RA delay and improve RA success ratio for internet of thing (IoT) systems. Specifically, novel sub-preamble considering frequency division multiple access is designed. The sub-preambles are used to increase the number of available preamble sequences, so that preamble collision probability is reduced. Further, a RA scheme using sub-preambles is presented. However, the proposed RA scheme will alleviate the waste of resources caused by preamble collision. Compared with several RA schemes, simulation results show that the proposed approach can effectively reduce average delay and increase success ratio.

    • Considering the multi-user and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system, a multi-user and best relay NOMA system with full-duplex decode-and-forward was proposed. A best relay selection scheme was further proposed to maximize the achievable target user's information rate via max-min criterion. Then, the target user's outage probability was analyzed, and the closed-form expression was also given. The simulation results showed that, the advantage of the proposed best relay selection scheme was related with the number of users and the transmit power of the relay without regard to the optimal users' order. However, if the optimal users' order was taken into account, the best performance can be always be achieved by the proposed best relay selection scheme.

    • In order to achieve the tradeoff between network cost and network connectivity, two heuristic algorithms for topology control, which are based on link addition and link removal, respectively, are proposed. Each link's weight in the topology optimization is calculated by employing the theory of algebraic connectivity and introducing a new topology metric for each wireless link. The proposed algorithms add or delete a link according to its weight. We conceive some cost functions for different network scenarios. Simulations show that our proposed algorithms could generate the low-cost topologies under the network connectivity constraint.

    • To improve the efficiency in information transmission of the wireless energy harvesting (SWIPT) spatial modulation cooperative system, an improved signal processing method of the system relay is discussed and a wireless energy harvesting system based on generalized spatial modulation-media based modulation (GSM-MBM) is proposed accordingly. In the system, radio frequency mirrors are placed around transmit antenna elements to create distinct channel perturbations, which is specifically referred to as mirror activation patterns to carry additional information bits. Specifically, the system transmission rate and the average pairwise error probability and energy consumption gain are derived and the accuracy of the analytical derivations is verified by Monte Carlo simulations. The results show that in the proposed scheme, not only the transmission rate is improved, but also the bit error rate and energy consumption are decreased compared with single input multiple output-media based modulation-SWIPT, spatial modulation-media based modulation-SWIPT. The bit error rate is slightly higher that of the spatial modulation-SWIPT system under the same transmission rate. However, the required number of transmit antennas is largely reduced, so that the hardware complexity, form factor and cost are reduced.
