Abstract: A random access (RA) scheme based on sub-preambles is proposed to reduce average RA delay and improve RA success ratio for internet of thing (IoT) systems. Specifically, novel sub-preamble considering frequency division multiple access is designed. The sub-preambles are used to increase the number of available preamble sequences, so that preamble collision probability is reduced. Further, a RA scheme using sub-preambles is presented. However, the proposed RA scheme will alleviate the waste of resources caused by preamble collision. Compared with several RA schemes, simulation results show that the proposed approach can effectively reduce average delay and increase success ratio.
