    • The “Comprehensive Information Based Methodology forNatural Language Understanding” presented in the paper is an application of the Comprehensive Information(CI) Theory, which was established by the author of the paper years ago formeeting the needs in artificial intelligence research. Different from other works in the field of natural language processing, the major features of the methodology presented in the paper include two folds. Firstly, instead of the syntacticor/and semantic information is used, all components of the comprehensive information are fully utilized for natural language understanding. Secondly, instead of using one or another approach preferably, both the rule-based approach and the statistics-based approach have been complementarily integrated. The successesof the research projects guided by the methodology and completed last few yearsprove the methodology promising.

    • In order to evaluate the matching ability of the reference map in a map-matching aided navigation system, both of the sampling cycle and measurement precision of the onboard data collection system were introduced in the statistic parameters. Experiments of navigation precision have been done by numerical simulation. A recursive algorithm is adopted as the map-matching algorithm in the simulation. The relationships between the new parameters and map-matching ability were found based on the simulation results.

    • A dynamic two-stage game model with spatial differentiation is proposed for products with incomplete homogenous. It is proved that the optimal strategy, in the duopoly market with unequal gross utilities derived from incomplete homogenous products, is neither maximum nor minimum differentiation, if the transportation cost is linear and the customer is uniformly distributed. The players are suggested to choose moderate spatial differentiation strategy, because the minimum differentiation will result in intensive price struggle and maximum differentiation strategy will cost resource. The other problems investigated here include transportation fee balance, monopoly pricing and collusion.

    • Abstract ( 324 )     HTML
    • A quantum two-party authentication protocol based on entanglement swapping is proposed. This protocol is extended to a multi-party authentication protocol. In the protocols, the previously shared entangled pairs by users act as the authentication keys. The authentication among the users are realized by performing entanglement swapping on the shared entangled particles and by performing the classical communication. The security of the protocols is discussed respectively.

    • Mathematical analysis and comparison are made amonghigh speed optical modulation formats using LiNbO3 optical waveguide modulators. The results indicate that the NRZ (non return-to-zero) format with compactmodulation bandwidth and simple configuration seems to be desirable in the highbit rate and short/medium distance optical fiber transmission. On the other hand, the CSRZ-DPSK (differential-phase-shift-keyed carrier-suppressed return-to-zero) format with better modulation spectrum, high dispersion and nonlinearity tolerance and moderate cost is shown to be one of the best choices for thehigh bitrate and long haul optical fiber transmission.

    • It is theoretically proved that the two output lightbeams can be used as a pair of EPR(Einstin-Podolsky-Rosen) entangled beams when the incident light upon a beam splitter is a single mode quadrature-squeezed coherent state or a squeezed quantum soliton. It is the simplest scheme forpreparing entangled states to our knowledge. The formulas explicitly show the correlation between the two nonclassical optical fields: squeezed states and entangled states. The affection of squeezing degree on entanglement is also investigated.

    • Abstract ( 243 )     HTML
    • Two open service access(OSA)-based solutions providing value-added short message service(SMS)are proposed for mobile telecom in china. The first solution is target-solution, which builds the value-added SMS network directly and exclusively by OSA technology. The second solution is overlay-solution, which integrates the existing proprietary value-added SMS network into OSA architecture. The second one can smoothly migrate to the first one.Applicable cases, technical features and operating modes for each solution arediscussed in detail. Meanwhile, a method of the mapping from SMS protocols to OSA application programming interface (API) is forwarded, i.e. OSA gateway triggers the short message from subscriberto service provider (SP) as predefined user interaction (UI) event and report itto SP.

    • The design criteria of space-time code(STC) for quasi-static fading channels, fast fading channels, and the time-varying fading channels are investigated. The first-event error probability of STC is evaluated, and a new hybrid design criterion of space-time code for time-varying fading channels is proposed based on that probability. Some new quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) STCs designed by the new criterion are proved, by simulation results, to be better than the known codes.

    • Journal of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. 2004, 27(4): 102-106.
    • Abstract ( 242 )     HTML
    • Signal to noise ratio (SNR) is required for maximum aposteriori probability(MAP) decoder of Turbo codes, otherwise there is some loss of SNR. A new algorithm of SNR estimator is proposed, which is based on the high order statistic analysis. The new algorithm is much simpler and more effective than the previous algorithms. And the new algorithm can be used for both the additive white Gaussian noise channel and the Rayleigh channel. The effectiveness of the new algorithm is verified by the computer simulations.
